EOSPRINT translates CAD data into precise printing processes for industrial 3D printing. The aim of the redesign is to reduce complexity, attract users and make the possibilities of additive manufacturing accessible to everyone.
Industrial Manufacturing
since 2016
Industrial 3D printing software is highly sophisticated from a technical point of view. EOSPRINT prepares CAD data for the laser sintering process. The results determine how strong, finely structured or fast a component is manufactured. But the software had grown over 15 years and was made for experts. Professionals used this — but it had to be made easier. We started right here. Our goal: to safely guide people with a wide range of levels of knowledge through this complex process and to make the technology tangible.

EOS machines are used all over the world today. From medical technology to automotive to space travel. All of these industries require precision, speed, and reliability.
Very different user groups face a key problem: The original software was powerful but complicated. Many functions were only understandable to specialists. As a result, engineers spent more time using the software than concentrating on their actual work.
We have accepted this challenge: How can a product with extremely high complexity be designed in such a way that it is intuitive to use without losing its performance?
We started analytically. In joint workshops with the EOS team, we examined all functional, technical and conceptual challenges. User groups, their levels of knowledge, pain points and needs were precisely mapped. On this basis, a well-thought-out customer journey map was created, which reflects real usage situations step by step.
Not every old function was questioned. Technically necessary steps were retained. At the same time, we created space for innovation. Where it made sense, we developed and introduced new features that bring real added value to users.

EOSPRINT 2 is the result of this transformation. All tools and functions are context-sensitive to every step in the workflow. This means that what the expert is currently doing determines which options are displayed. In this way, complexity is not concealed, but is clearly structured and made understandable along the process.
The workflow is based on the real process of additive manufacturing. Engineers follow a comprehensible process without “zooming in” into the interface or looking for hidden settings. This increases efficiency and reduces sources of error.
EOSPRINT 2 gives experts creative leeway. The software is open, productive and intuitive at the same time. It makes daily work easier and makes it possible to experience the power of the technology — from initial data preparation to final construction work.

The redesign has noticeably changed the way users work. Engineers report more clarity in the process and fewer interruptions in the workflow. The functions are where they are needed. The information architecture provides security rather than confusing.
EOSPRINT 2 has won three design awards and received recognition from the community. The successes achieved confirm that it is possible to combine the highest functional requirements and intuitive usability.
